Ideas for practicing words at home:
Write the words on cards. Spread them out on the table or floor. Read the words to your Firstie and have him or her point to, swat, or pick up the card with the word you say.
Using the cards from the previous activity have your student spell the words aloud.
Have your student read the words to you.
Have your child write the words in the snow, on a paper bag, or type them on their computer.
Give your Firstie a good, old fashioned spelling test.
Find some old magazines or newspapers and have your child cut out individual letters to use to build the words you’re working on.
Valentine’s Day
With Valentine’s Day falling on a Sunday this year and not having school the day after or the Friday before, we will not be having the traditional holiday party. Our class will make cards for each other at school and we will distribute them Thursday, February 11th.
101st Day of First Grade
We will be celebrating this fun day in style on Wednesday, February 17. Please send an old t-shirt to school by Tuesday, February 16.
